As a woman-owned and woman-run business, we understand the importance of standing together to support marginalized communities and to celebrate the beauty of individuality. All About That Color
Pride Facts
- Historical Significance: Pride Month is celebrated in June to honor the Stonewall Riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969. These riots were a pivotal event in the LGBTQ+ rights movement.
First Pride March: On Sunday, June 28, 1970, at around noon, in New York, gay activist groups held their own pride parade, known as the Christopher Street Liberation Day, to recall the events of Stonewall one year earlier. This march marked the first anniversary of the uprising and set the precedent for annual Pride celebrations.
- Symbolic Rainbow Flag: The rainbow flag, designed by artist Gilbert Baker in 1978, is a global symbol of LGBTQ+ pride and diversity. Each color represents a different aspect of the community.
- Harvey Milk's Influence: Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States, played a significant role in promoting the visibility and rights of the LGBTQ+ community. His assassination in 1978 galvanized the movement, leading to increased activism and the establishment of the Harvey Milk Day, which is celebrated in California on May 22.
